Upcoming Trips -- Trip to Europe in May 2014 to import breeding stock
SPECIFICS:
For the fee of $650 (Cdn), I will serve on the buyer’s behalf, appearing in person at the foreign kennel, with payment released only upon the foreign breeder handing over the correct dog in good health, with proper registration documentation. Pictures transmitted via cell phone at the time of the transaction will further verify the satisfaction of the buyer with the puppy being collected. I will microchip, vet-check, and accompany the dogs on the flight back to North America, to ensure this precious cargo is carefully attended on layovers and to ensure the entire shipment makes all connecting flights. Once on Canadian soil, I will ensure expedited Customs’ inspection so the dogs/pups can be released from their crates as soon as possible. Finally, I will hold pups for up to a week on my farm until their new home can come get them.
My fee does not cover:
-- the cost of the pup or HST
-- the airline-approved carrier
-- any vet fees other than the International Health Certificate exam and documentation
-- shipping to the new home
My fee does cover:
-- Completion of the CFIA Import Permit Application and fees required to import dogs for "commercial purposes" (their terminology, not mine)
-- Shipping of your airline-approved crate overseas (they are too expensive to buy there)
-- Verifying in real-time through texted photos that the dog I am picking up is indeed the dog that you thought you were getting (no chance of an unethical breeder switching dogs). I will also verify that the pup appears healthy enough (and old enough) to handle the transatlantic travel. This can be done prior to you releasing the funds to the breeder through Paypal.
-- As soon as the correct pup is identified, I will microchip the pup with a CKC-recognized chip and text the number to you so misidentification is impossible.
-- I will bring the pup to an official vet for the exam and resulting International Veterinary Health Certificate
-- I accompany your "special delivery" through all the hassles and trials of a transatlantic flight and customs inspections
-- I hold the pup for up to a week on my farm, until you can make arrangements to ship it or have it picked up
-- My fee for a second pup from the same breeder, to be shipped in the same crate, is $450.
My experience in dog breeding spans 4 decades; I have started multiple animal rescue groups, and I've been importing new genetic lines for my own breeding program since 1996. In addition to my import experience, I have demonstrated the ethics necessary to make tough choices on which of my aboriginal stock would contribute to a healthy gene pool, and which had to be sterilized and placed in a pet home. Thus, I can't be bribed by unethical breeders. This is an important distinction for anyone serving as your agent in a foreign transaction. If you are interested, get back with me right away so I can pencil in a spot for your pup. Then set about finding the pup/dog(s) you want to import. Prepayment of my fee and identification of the dog(s) to be imported is required prior to submission of the CFIA Import Permit Application at the end of April.
